Old Mormon Cemetery

The "Old Mormon" Cemetery in the outskirts of Nauvoo was amazing. It was very humbling to walk around the grounds and read the names of those early saints who suffered so much before they fled west. The death rate among children was 64%, and in a lot of cases families lost all their children. There is a memorial there and we were able to view names of our various family ancestors, 5 generations ago who died. Making the personal connection and finding two of my family lines who lived their and fled west to Salt Lake City to escape persecution, makes me want to do more genealogy and learn about my great, great, great, great grandparents.

The bronzed statue in the historic burial grounds, paid a nice tribute to all those lives lost.
