Munich

I was kind of surprised how much I liked Munich (the first two days we were there). As it turned out not only was our apartment cute it was in a great location, with lots of light and nice neighborhood views.

We were just minutes away from the u-bahn which took us directly to Marianplatz, the old town main square. Our stop underground was the coolest by far, orange rulez! (a "z" for Patrick!)

We came out from underground and saw the beautiful sun shining, blue skies and flowers in window boxes everywhere!

The flower boxes were one of my favorite things about this trip in general. The main square led to the pedestrian zone which had a lot of main stream shopping, like an H&M every 2 feet. I did see this cool digital window display for United Colors of Benetton. I loved seeing the colors splash through the window and this weird monster thing jumping up and down. Very eye catching, but not annoying.

We wondered the streets, kind of like zombies since we'd been up all night and then found dinner. Dan will post later about all our food experiences. The next day we went to the Viktualien Markt which I truly loved! I loved all the food stalls, the (empty) beer gardens, flowers, pumpkins, and crazy red hard boiled eggs.

Above was the place we got our first breakfast...yummmmm, bread!

The market had cheese, olives, weird fruits I'd never seen, fountains, and amazing wreaths. The smells there were amazing, full of cinnamon and spice.

The above is the perfect "frau" in my mind. They also had funny little creatures, that were scary, but cute all at the same time.

I bought some raspberries to sustain me, then we bought gorgonzola walnut and truffle raviolis, some olives and yummy bread to make for dinner that night.

My feet were tired, but the market rocked!

The rest of the day was spent at the BMW museum (which I'll cover later) and Dachau, the concentration camp nearby. I was so sobered by the images and stories we read and the vastness of the area that housed so many and where such brutality took place.

This was the only day it rained, which added to the somber mood. I actually quite liked the time I spent alone outside walking and just hearing the rain on my umbrella and the crunch of my feet on the gravel while reflecting on what I'd seen.

The foundations of the rows and rows of bunk houses.

It was a full day, but very enjoyable on many levels.
