We recently went on the Theo Chocolate Tour. Talk about being in heaven! We walked in and were overwhelmed by the lovely smell of chocolate and delighted to see that they samples out near the displays. I'm pretty sure I sampled every single one while we waited for the tour, they had a lot of great dark chocolate as well as a few milk chocolate gems. My favorite was the Hazelnut Crunch, yum-o!
Of course the tour was that much more fun because my mom was with us, and we got to wear blue hair nets!

They started the tour telling us about their organic, fair trade, bean-to-bar practices which I found fascinating. Check out their site for more info here.
Then we went into a super hot room where they were roasting their cocoa beans. Actually they roast them twice for more flavor.

The beans looked really good in the yellow tubs!

After roasting, the beans are ground and the good stuff comes out of this little gizmo.
Unfortunately they weren't producing any chocolate that day, so we didn't get to see it all in action, but it was still very cool to see and hear the detailed explanations of how the process works.

And of course at the end there was more chocolate! I highly recommend going on the tour. It was really informative and fun and would even be fun for kids.

I've decided that the hazlenut chocolates are my favorite. It was a fun tasting tour.
I loved it and want to go back during the week sometime to see all this equipment in action. I was fascinated with the commercial equipment, and all the tools and pots & pans to use.
Mmmmm. I love visiting chocolate factories. Or shops where they're making fudge. It's totally worth donning a hairnet to see it up close.
