So, on Saturday Dan and I tried it. We went to our local Deseret Industries and bought some old silk skirts for bargin prices. (Martha Stewart used her old Hermés scarves, yeah, like I have any of those hanging around)
Then you cut them into squares.
Wrap the silk around the egg and secure with a twist tie. You also need muslin to wrap around the eggs to keep the fabrics from bleeding into each other. We bought old pillow cases in stead, they worked just fine. Secure muslin with another twist tie.
Put them in cold water with 3 TBS vinegar and bring to a boil for 20 minutes.
Pull out of the water and let cool until easy to handle. Then unwrap!
I think they would have turned out more vibrant if we'd boiled them longer, but then you wouldn't be able to eat the eggs inside. They would also probably work better with silk that had less white in it and more saturated colors. But, we were pleased with our first attempt and will definitely try this again next year.

Oooooh! great idea! I'm going to try this next year with my old Hermes scarves (HAHA- I kid, Value Village scarves are more my style). They turned out beautiful- thanks for sharing.
Those are beautiful! Thank you for sharing. It's a Good Thing.
I'll have to try that next year. --Do you wrap the eggs raw, then? It seems like so long to boil an egg. (I bring my eggs to a boil, then take them off the heat and have them sit for 20 minutes in the hot, covered pan. So 20 minutes at boil worries me a little.)
You do wrap the eggs raw. Then boil for 20 minutes. I made deviled eggs out of most of them yesterday. They turned out fine, not overcooked.
That is way awesome. We'll have to try it next year...
So cool. I wonder researches for Martha--she has so many amazing ideas.
Those are beautiful. It makes me want to do the same thing.
once again, you're my artistic demigod!
These are incredible! I think we will have to try these next year.
Demigod? I don't think so. Martha worshiper, maybe.
